Spartan Race Andorra 2017, a brief summary

The beginnings of this obstacles-filled race

Considered the best obstacle course in recent years, the Reebok Spartan Race is rumored to have come from the British Navy’s Infantry veterans at the turn of the century. The first edition of this sport of endurance took place in 2010 in the United States, on the initiative of Peak Races. It is only in 2012 that Europe hosts this obstacle race for the first time in Slovakia. It was in 2016 that Andorra welcomed the Spartan Race for the first time.

On September 16th and 17th, Grandvalira invites you to spend a weekend full of emotions and challenges with the Spartan Race Andorra 2017. The second edition of the most famous obstacles course in the world will take place in the ski resort Grandvalira Pas de la Case - Grau Roig. It is also the 4th edition of the European Championship. This year the enthusiasm is much greater and the fact that the race will be held in September is an incredible incentive for the "spartans" who come to win the title of European Spartan Race Champion in the Principality, mainly thanks to the added preparation time and the more accommodating temperature. The Grandvalira station is expected to accommodate around 4,000 people in addition to the supporters who opt to participate in the Spartan Race 2017. Andorra has added an additional challenge this year: the ski resort Pas de la Casa - Grau Roig is located at 2.100m altitude, making it an exceptional race.

What’s new in the 2017 edition

The contestants will not only compete for the title and its glory, but there will be a prize of € 15,000 for the winner. In addition, the 2nd Andorran edition of the Spartan Race 2017 has prepared new obstacles never seen before.

The most important novelty is that, for the first time, in the Pas de la Casa - Grau Roig area, Grandvalira, the most competitive riders will be able to compete against each other in an age-compliant category to qualify for the continental title. In order to participate, athletes must be placed at the top of the European classification, regardless of the Spartan Race in which they participated (July 25 to September 9). The race is open to the top 5 riders of each competition (men and women) and for each age category.

Who can participate in the Spartan Race Andorra 2017

Whether you are an elite, an assiduous rider or a novice, all Spartans are welcome!

In order to qualify for the continental title, athletes will have to rank first in the European ranking of any Spartan Race between 25 July and 9 September.

Competition by age category is open to the top 5 of the best Competitive male and female riders in the 5 age categories (18-24, 25-32, 33-39, 40-49, 50+). They will receive an invitation by email to take part in the European Championships by age category. Get ready for the next Spartan Race in Andorra!

Access to the sector Pas de la Case-Grau Roig

Access to Grau Roig from Pas de la Casa or France is via the Col d’Envalira. A unique route will lead you to 2 free outdoor car parks that can accommodate up to 1,300 vehicles.

If the prospect of facing the winding road of the pass does not tempt you, the tunnel of Envalira also allows access to Grau Roig. Traffic signs will tell you at the exit of the tunnel which direction to take.
